Anthony “Tony” de Nicola is Chairman of Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe (WCAS), a New York-based private investment firm that manages more than $33 billion across its funds. Tony joined WCAS in 1994, has served on the firm’s Management Committee since 2000, was named President in 2007, and became Chairman in 2021. He has led many of the firm’s technology investments and has been involved in some of WCAS’s most successful investments. He also serves on the boards of several of the firm’s private and public portfolio companies.
Prior to joining WCAS, Tony worked in the private equity group at William Blair & Company and in the mergers department at Goldman Sachs & Co.
Tony and his wife, Christie, focus their philanthropy on education, poverty relief, healthcare, and the Catholic Church. Their support includes the establishment of the de Nicola Center for Ethics and Culture at the University of Notre Dame. Tony has also been a leading national advocate for expanding educational opportunity and school choice. In 2012, he co-founded Invest in Education which led the successful effort to secure the passage of the landmark federal tax credit scholarship law in 2025, establishing a permanent federal tax credit for private donations to fund K-12 scholarships.
Tony and Christie have been married for nearly 40 years and have three married children and a growing number of grandchildren.
